The Employer

STOP is a well established Non-Government Organisation with approximately 32 employees and contract clinicians that provides community based treatment programmes in Christchurch, Dunedin, Invercargill and Nelson in the South Island of New Zealand.  

The Programmes 

STOP provides programmes for adults and adolescents who have sexually abused/offended and for children who have engaged in sexually harmful behaviours. STOP aspires to excellence both in terms of clinical service delivery and in organisational processes and programmes deliver best practice intervention including individual therapy, group and family therapy with social work support. Specialist Programmes for adolescents and men with intellectual disabilities are available in Christchurch.   STOP has a  commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi and Maori Kaimahi clinicians are available in the Christchurch programmes to work with Maori clients and whanau.  Services to Pacific Peoples are also being developed.  

The Location  

Christchurch, Dunedin, Invercargill and Nelson are located in the South Island of New Zealand. The South Island has a temperate climate with easy access to a wide range of recreation activities in the mountains, rivers and oceans.   Christchurch is the largest city in the South Island of New Zealand with a population of 350,000 people. The city is located at the edge of the Canterbury plains and Banks Peninsula which features sheltered bays and bush clad valleys. To the west of the city lie the tallest mountains in Australasia, the Southern Alps, strung out through the middle of the South Island parallel to the coastline. Mountain passes with delightful alpine villages, provide a route to the native bush clad West-Coast of the South Island.  The whale-watching centre of Kaikoura is about 2 hours drive north of Christchurch.  To the south are two more of Canterbury’s pristine rivers, ideal for fishing, white-water rafting or kayaking.  Mt Hutt, the premier commercial ski area and five smaller ski fields are within 2 hours drive from the city.  Christchurch offers a relaxed city life style with generally dry summers and moderate winters.

 

Canty Plains

 

Dunedin is a city with Scottish history ,about five hours drive south of Christchurch.  Invercargill is New Zealand's mos southern city.

Work Visa and Immigration  

Assistance will be provided to the successful applicant in securing a two-year work visa and subsequently in applying for permanent residency in New Zealand if eligible.  Some financial assistance would also be provided for relocation.

STOP’s staffing needs are in the following areas:  

Clinical Staff          

  • Specialist Clinicians with qualifications and experience in counselling, social work, psychology or a related field.         
  • Clinical Psychologist with a post-graduate qualification in Clinical Psychology with New Zealand Registration or eligible for New Zealand registration       
  • Social Worker with a minimum Level B qualification in Social Work or equivalent and current Certificate of Competency       
  • Family Therapists with qualifications and experience in family therapy  

Administration Staff         

  • Administration Support- experience and training in range of administration skills including computer packages, word processing and reception skills       
  • Finance Manager- experience and training in accounting and finance including computer packages
